Cotton Grass Theatre Company Ltd. is a company limited by guarantee and has no share holders.
The
organisation was established in 1995 and is based in the Peak District
of
Derbyshire.
Aims and Objectives

establish a permanent theatre company in the Peak District

To mount high quality, innovative and entertaining workshops and productions,
which are accessible and sympathetic to local needs.
To mount site-specific productions at appropriate local venues.
To develop a programme of outreach work, with local schools and the wider community,
so as to encourage further participation in theatre and related activities.
To make the company a viable financial concern within the community.
To collaborate with other organisations.
To respond to local initiatives.
To have an annual review of aims and objectives.
Cotton Grass Theatre Ltd. has two company directors.
Creative Director: Susan
Daniel
and Commercial
Director: David Frederickson
Other posts are created for the company's various productions.
These include actors, technical staff, writers and directors etc.
They are contracted by the company directors, usually after interview
or audition, and work on a self employed basis.
Cotton Grass Theatre has a policy of including local people in their productions.
The company does not have any employees.
People working for the company are normally paid according to contracts agreeing
either fixed fees for specific projects or profit-share.
Profit share is implemented by deducting all of a production's running costs from the income received for that production
and sharing the remaining amount equally between the company and the other contracted parties.
On occasions, budgets and staffing need to be managed according to criteria set out by funding organisations.
Method of Working
Decisions relevant to Cotton Grass Theatre as an organisation
are made collectively by the directors at regular meetings.
Decisions concerning individual projects, are made by the company as a whole.
Cotton Grass Theatre seeks to achieve its aims and objectives in the following ways:
By discussing the needs of the company and project schedules at frequent meetings.
Researching sources of funding and applying for support for specific projects.
Raising the profile of the company and broadening the scope of its work by
running performances and creative workshops.
Employing
professionals to participate in projects for fixed fees
or profit share ( see

)
Inviting the wider community to participate in its projects.
Researching suitable venues and material for site-specific work.
Promoting new writing.
Visiting schools and community groups to deliver workshops, performances, talks and presentations.
Finance
The company is funded by, receipts from audiences, fees from workshops
and some awards for specific projects.
The company does not receive any regular grants or revenue funding.
All of the company's income is used to pay for its work.
Annual audited accounts are kept.
The company holds assets in the form of money and theatrical equipment.
In the event of the company ceasing to exist, surplus assets would be given to
another company with similar aims.
The company is not a registered charity and is not vat registered.
